The winds start blowing on the paradisiac islands of Cape Verde and until April, the little archipelago and windsurf fans fall in love. The Atlantic Ocean is the home of paradises found, yet left almost intact, by humans. And the 10 islands of Cape Verde fit this description better than any others. Sunny weather, warm African winds, fantastic seafood and melodic morna music make it the perfect place to relax and get in touch with Nature.
However, one of its islands, Boa Vista, sets itself apart by the great characteristics every kite or windsurfer will love, from beginners to the pros.
Why is Boa Vista so special?
Boa Vista is very windy between October and April, when the northern winds from the Canary Islands drop to the southern hemisphere. So, when most goto places for surfing lack the perfect wind for water sports like kite and windsurfing, Boa Vista becomes a treasured destination.
The island is also noted for the variety of water conditions it offers: from buttery flat and shallow spots, suited for beginners, to extraordinary clean waves just awaiting for water riders.
You might also be surprised by the water temperature. Unlike what you might think about an island so deep into the wide Atlantic ocean, the waters are actually quite warm.
So, tell you more about those spots!
If you’re a beginner, you will most certainly enjoy the flat water spot close to town of Sal Rei. Protected by a smaller island that blocks the waves, this is a safe spot for all those who are just finding a new passion for kitesurfing or looking to improve their freestyle moves. Here the water is quite shallow, between 1 meter (low tide) to 2 (high tide).
If you’re a pro, you will enjoy many of our wave spots. Stronger winds and extraordinary clean waves are common around the unprotected coast of the islands, as you’ll see in Funana, a wavespot between the harbour and the offshore island, or in Turtle Bay, a charming place of turquoise water and, yes turtles.
If you’re an adventurer, there are quite few spots just waiting to be discovered not too far from the hotels. Talk to us and we’ll tell you all you need to know like only a local would.
